29th The Galleries

Slow - slow - no sign of any hurry - a last full day in Berlin -  already into bad habits - breakfast in Friedrichstrabe again!

Taxi to the Neue Gallery -more beautiful buildings - more clean city .

The gallery? - interesting but not inspiring - we attach a wish to Yoko Ono's wishing tree - Bernie makes and displays a Yoko inspired "mend piece" - nothing too complex - three pieces of broken plate arranged and tied together!

The pieces for me?

Barbara and Gabby by Franz Gertsch

My Daughters by Meine Tochter

On the Nameless Height by Auf der namenlosen Hohe.

Bernie loved these but had a special affection for Picasso's Reclining Lady with Flowers

We move on to the Hamburger Bahnhoff Museum of Contemporary Art - I am left completely underwhelmed! - I just don't understand! - clearly there is not an a artistic bone in my body! - I find the only thing in the entire museum which occupies a former railway station was the magnificently detailed true pin joints on the base of it's portal frame columns - to an engineer a true piece of art!

We try the Berlin underground - a possible graduation dress for Matilda seen in the window of Max Mara - it must be photographed and relayed  back to Australia.

Impressed by the underground - clean - efficient - German!

Back to the hotel - the bar? - a little frightening - 3 G&T's - 50 euros - we rationalize the cost! - so much gin that we need to recover in our room!

We recover our sense of balance - off to the Italian restaurant intermediately across the Spree we sit - we listen!

The emergency services sound their sirens - the little horse in Palermo would laugh - that not even a little siren!!!

We sit  on the Spree - the restaurant - huge - large - big - good - efficient - enjoyable!

We watch the river boats pass by - we imagine it is Erika and Knud.

We are loving Berlin!!

We see some angry Germans - both male and female - it is surprising - it is infrequent - only three - it is  a little sad - we think about what Leo said - elections follow the line of the old wall - "somepeople feel left out" said he.

We look around - there is not as much smoking or vaping as in Italy  - there are no pigeons -  I feel lonely - who is going to clean up after me?

Our supper? - delightful - the waitresses  superb - their organisation excellent!

We wander back - some last photographs of Berlin on Germany's public holiday for Ascension Day.
